When this piece was first assigned, I had so many ideas of topics that I wanted to argue about. I chose illegal immigration because at the moment of writing it, it was a majorly controversial. Before I started my research, i had already known my stance on the topic and which side I agreed with, but I learned so much more through my research. The first step was to find the sources to support my claim, and it was a bit challenging. However, I fortunately had already had practice searching long and hard for sources in my last essay, the argument analysis. My research I completed did not change my views on the subject, but actually made them stronger.
If I had a chance to do this piece of work over again, I would make it longer. It barely met the length requirement by the teacher and I feel like if I spent some more time and put a bit more effort in, I could have added more detail or even a counterclaim to make my argument stronger. I think it is important for arguments to recognize another point of view included in them, but I did not think about adding one until after I had already turned my essay in. |
