Before I started my photography class, I knew absolutely nothing about cameras, photographers, and photoshop. I have learned so much this past year about how to use photoshop on the computer, how a camera works, and techniques used by photographers. I had learned about a few famous photographers through the class photo history lectures, but I still didn't know much about the photojournalists as people. When I got the assignment of an essay about the work of a single person, I took it as an opportunity to learn something new. I didn't want to choose a photographer I already knew and learned about. I wanted to learn about a completely new person and analyze their work. I chose the first person on the list of options, Eve Arnold.
I am very satisfied with this piece of work mostly because of how much I learned. My goal for this assignment was to learn at least one new piece of information, and that I did. I learned so much while doing research for my paper. I used to think that learning about pictures and researching about photography was an absolute bore. This assignment has changed that idea. I actually enjoyed analyzing Eve Arnold's images. I think I started to change my views when I started looking at all her accomplishments. I found it very interesting all the work she had done in her life. If I had a chance to do this piece over again, I think I would have elaborated more on Eve Arnold's life story. I think I could have done a sufficient analyzation of her images while also showing a bit more of all taht she had accomplished in her carreer. Something I learned about myself during this assignment was how difficult it was to fall within a word count. I am perfectly capable of writing an essay but trying to create one that had to be a certain amount of words was something that was a little bit more challenging for me. That is surely something I am going to continue practicing over time. |
